DIN rail connecting busbars and accessories

Busbars and accessories are used to create electrical connections between modular protection and switching devices in distribution boards. Connecting busbars distribute the power supply across circuit breakers, residual current devices and other compatible DIN rail equipment while reducing the need for individual connecting wires.

The category may include fork-type and pin-type busbars, solutions for different numbers of phases, end caps, connection components and other accessories. Important selection criteria include the number of poles and phases, cross-sectional area, pitch, number of modules, length, rated current and compatibility with the particular modular devices being connected.

Connecting busbars for modular devices

Connecting busbars, also known as comb busbars, distribute the electrical supply between multiple DIN rail devices. They are used in distribution boards to connect circuit breakers, residual current devices, combined protection devices and other compatible modular equipment. Busbars help create an organised installation and reduce the number of individually prepared wire connections.

Fork-type or pin-type busbars are selected according to the terminal design of the connected devices. They may be intended for single-phase or multiphase systems and can differ in cross-sectional area, pitch, number of modules and total length. Some busbars can be adapted to the required number of devices when the manufacturer’s cutting and insulation instructions are followed.

How to choose a busbar and its accessories

  • Connection type: the fork or pin profile must match the terminal design of the modular devices.
  • Number of phases and poles: the busbar must correspond to the distribution board circuit and device configuration.
  • Pitch: the spacing between contacts must match the terminal positions of the connected devices.
  • Cross-section and current rating: the electrical ratings of the busbar must be suitable for the intended load.
  • Length and number of modules: determine the required number of connection points and the overall busbar size.
  • Compatibility: verify that the busbar is suitable for the particular device series and installation arrangement.
  • Accessories: end caps and protective components may be required to insulate unused or cut ends safely.

The busbar must be installed according to the distribution board circuit diagram and the documentation of the connected devices. Before energising the installation, check the contact positions, terminal tightness and insulation of all current-carrying parts.
